DC SW – part 1 of x

Well, it’s come and gone in a rather quick fashion. I have plenty of thoughts to share for the upcoming days, but today I’m going to start with an overview of the weekend.

This weekend about 60+ people in DC meet up for DC Startup Weekend. Friday night we decided to launch a social network for communities about what’s going on in their neighborhood, HolaNeighbor. Friday night left many in the group frustrated over a lack of direction towards where HolaNeighbor could go. I was really nervous we’d have about 10 people on Saturday morning cranking out an unflushed vision.

Saturday morning came with a new excitement as development (myself included) start cranking out some basics of the site. About an hour in, …

Laptop Yoga it is in Boston

Here’s a rundown, [via]

The Idea: Laptop Yoga–If You Are A Geek You Are In Trouble*

The Concept: Laptop Yoga was actually born at the first Startup Weekend and has been fleshed out since then. At SW we generally do 2 minutes of yoga on the hour during our 7 minute meeting. Most participants agree it helps them to 1) re-focus 2) relax 3) feel better.

Laptop yoga (I own the domain) would appeal to geeks & lay persons alike. I’m flexible on execution but think it should work something like gmail/twitter (a tab you keep open all day that flashes how many breaks you’re behind the way your google tells you you have (1) new msg and then like a dog you

Boston or Bust this Weekend

This weekend will bring the true test of Startup Weekend. Last weekend West Lafayette was the first weekend (out of the 6 that have occurred) to successfully launch a product by Sunday night. Will Boston be the second weekend to do it and continue the trend? We shall see — good luck to them all!

Only 1 week till DC gets put to the test.…

ScrollTalk — West Lafayette's SW Choice

Sorry for the delays in posting as I’m wrapping up my vacation in Vegas. This weekend (which is still going on), West Lafayette’s SW has been very successful in developing ScrollTalk. Per Andrew Hyde:

The idea is scrolltalk, a chat room where you are contextually grouped with like-minded members. Think “Choose Your Own Adventure” for chatting.

According to the West Lafayette blog, the alpha was completed far ahead of schedule and has already built: Facebook Ap, Blog Widget, and Firefox/IE7 plugin extensions.

Hopefully we’ll see the first SW to pull out a full public system after today. It’s in private beta now…we’ll all hoping for the best!…
